From fashion and home design to art and décor, the end of 2017 has many industry professionals turning to a forecast of what to expect in 2018. Pantone shed some light on trends for the coming year recently, as they announced their “Color of the Year” for 2018, a bright and bold Ultra Violet hue that we will be sure to see everywhere.

As Pantone writes, the hue is “inventive and imaginative,” and “lights the way to what is yet to come” as it paves the way to the future with its communication of “originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking.” In deciding on Ultra Violet, Pantone references its position as a symbol of counterculture, implemented by renowned artists from Prince and David Bowie to Jimi Hendrix “as personal expressions of individuality.”

The color also carries deep associations to mindfulness, offering “a higher ground to those seeking refuge from today’s over-stimulated world.” In keeping with Pantone’s suggestion that Ultra Violet may remind us to take a step back, I’ve come up with three ways you can incorporate the color into your life, from relaxing gifts and home design to personal style.

The Gift of Relaxation

Whether it’s a quick hostess gift or a personal indulgence, lavender, a natural form of Ultra Violet, offers the perfect opportunity to take a break from the busy world.
